Getting Kids Ready for the New Academic Year

The hot scorching summers are over and the first torrent of rain marks beginning of yet another academic year in the various educational institutes. The schools and colleges are preparing themselves to give a welcome to their current as well as new students; even parentshave started making efforts on their front to preparetheir children to get intuned with the changed schedule. It gets very difficult with kids to accustom them with the new routine especiallywhen they are in the age group of 3-8 years. Re-opening of educational institutes poses new set of challenges for parents as well as children.If you have transferred your child from a public school to an IB school it is really important they are prepared well in advance for new environment, peers and teachers as they cannot accept drastic changes, Communication can make a difference for the school-going kids. Talk about the international school curriculum andcosmopolitan culture so that they do not feel alienated and do not find it hard to get along with a new system. Talk about the campus with your child, the facilities in the premises, interesting and intriguing aspects of curriculum. This will help the student to get a clear picture of the whole scene, thus on their first day they will not feel out of place in the new environment. The first thing kids find difficult or rather impossible to adjust and adapt is with their daily homework and assignment. You can prepare them for upcoming homework by teaching them to manage their time. The best option would be asking the children to plan their day and carry out the same without any alterations. Thus, they would not avoid doing their assignments. Kids in IB schools are not over loaded with unnecessary burden of homework as IB Diploma curriculum believes in educating the kid and not just turning them into book worms. During vacations, child is like free-birds, he/she have no worries, no burden of studies;he/she can enjoy the break by spending their time on the playgrounds or enrolling in some hobby classes. Once the school starts, they do not get enough time to pursue activities of their interests. Being parent, it is important that you gradually prepare your children make a layout of their daily activities and manage their time between sports/hobbies and studies. Encourage them to participate in the co-curricular activities; this will also help the kid to pursue their hobbies. IB school co-curricular activities offer a variety of activities likegames, clubs, art and craft, etc. The most though job for a mother is to make her child have his/her meals properly and at the right time. However, when the child starts going to the school, they usually avoid their lunch and go out to play. Before it re-opens, sit with your kid and talk about importance of having a balanced diet. It will make the kids not avert their meals. Moreover, in IB schools healthy and hygienic food is served to the kids and they are encourage to have it with other peers and teachers.
